Community Service with St. Hilda’s x SGCares

Early on Saturday morning, our students gathered, partnering with SGCares and St. Hilda’s Community Services for a meaningful day of community service. This activity was organised as part of Brentvale College International’s holistic student development initiative, the A.C.E.S programme.
The A.C.E.S. programme is designed to empower students through Academic support, Community engagement, Enrichment opportunities, and Support both in and out of the classroom. By participating in community service, students not only contribute positively to society but also develop essential life skills such as empathy, collaboration, and cultural awareness.
Our students were divided into teams and paired with experienced volunteers from St. Hilda’s Community Services before setting out. Together, they visited elderly residents in the neighbourhood, offering up both their cleaning services and their companionship.
Armed with cleaning supplies, students helped with spring cleaning tasks, which included tidying living rooms, wiping windows, and organising household clutter. More importantly, they took the time to share stories and memories, offering friendship to the seniors, many of whom appreciated the company just as much as the cleaning assistance.
The day became a lesson in empathy and interpersonal skills, with many students reflecting on how their presence and support were enough to brighten up the seniors’ day. They realised that community service is not just about providing a helping hand, but about building meaningful connections in the community.
This partnership exemplifies the A.C.E.S programme’s focus on community engagement. Activities like this provide students with practical experience in working with the community and the opportunity to develop their interpersonal skills, enabling them to contribute meaningfully while fostering empathy, cooperation, and a sense of social responsibility.
